Delonte West made four free throws in the final 14 seconds, sealing the victory for the Boston Celtics over the Dallas Mavericks, 77-73.

Maverick point guard Devin Harris had a chance to cut the lead to one when he was fouled on a jump shot by Gerald Green with 14 seconds left. However, Harris went down with a right shoulder injury on the play and could not shoot the free throws. The Celtics picked Maverick center Pavel Podkolzin to shoot the free throws. Podkolzin made one of two free throws.

Justin Reed led five Celtics in double figures with 13 points (3-5 FG). Delonte West (12 points), Al Jefferson (11 points), Taylor Coppenrath (11 points) and Ryan Gomes (10 points) were the other Celtics in double figures. Jefferson grabbed nine rebounds in the game, while Gomes snatched eight rebounds.

Boston shot just 42 percent (27-64 FG) for the game, but out-rebounded the Mavs 40-31 and beat them 17-6 on second chance points.

Marquis Daniels (6-16 FG) and Michael Harris (5-7 FG) paced the Mavs with 13 points a piece. Josh Powell chipped in nine points (1-6 FG, 7-10 FT) and 10 rebounds in the losing effort. The Mavericks finished the game shooting 40 percent (25-63 FG).

Dallas took a 43-40 lead into halftime on 52 percent (13-25 FG) shooting. Josh Powell led the Mavs in scoring with nine points and eight rebounds in the half.

Gomes led the Celtics in the first half with eight points on three of three shooting. Boston shot 43 percent (15-35 FG) in the first half.

The Celtics take on the Phoenix Suns on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m., while the Mavericks battle the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Player of the game: Justin Reed

Second-year Celtics star Justin Reed earned Player of the Game honors for his solid play at both ends of the court in Boston's 77-73 game #2 victory over the Dallas Mavericks at the Reebok Vegas Summer League. Reed led the Green and White in scoring with 13 points (on 3-5 field goal shooting and 6-7 scoring from the charity stripe). He also dished-out a team-high 4 assists, swatted one Mavs shot and connected on his only three-point attempt. His defensive pressure, forcing key turnovers, on Mavericks Michael Harris and Marquis Daniels during the final three minutes of the contest helped the Celtics remain undefeated after two games of the RVSL.

Game Notes

There was some good-hearted concern on the part of the coaching staff if they were going be suiting-up for the game, after Ryan Gomes received an accidental elbow to the left side of his head at the 6:20 mark of the opening quarter (he was fouled on the play)... a little bleeding occurred and Trainer Ed Lacerte went to work on the rookie on the Celtics bench... Gomes, after the injury timeout, returned to make both free throws and then resumed his position on the bench with Lacerte working on him some more (he returned to action and logged 20 minutes in the contest)... the Celtics were, once again, without the services of Jeremiah Massey who is day-to-day with a bruised left calf... Assistant Coach (and acting Celtics head coach for the RVSL) Tony Brown started the same five as in Game #1 (West and Allen at guard, Perkins at center, Jefferson and Reed at forwards)... Jefferson, Taylor Coppenrath and Will McDonald all had their hands full when guarding 7-5, 260-pound Pavel Pokolzin...crowd favorite, Celtics top pick Gerald Green, didn't disappoint as the rookie sensation had another alley-oop highlight dunk in the second quarter (assist from Will Bynum)... the two players tried the same play again a minute later only the Mavs wanted no part of it, fouling Green before the play fully developed... 71 total personal fouls were called... as time was running out at the end of the third quarter, Kendrick Perkins, applying some Gary Payton ball handling skills, dribbled from the endline to just over half court, jumped and threw an overhead pass straight off the backboard (his teammates were all covered closely) where the ball fell into the hands of Gomes who simply layed it in for an 'easy' two.
