Walter McCarty - Assistant Coach

Walter McCarty is in his fifth season as an assistant coach with the Boston Celtics. He was named to the position on August 21, 2013. McCarty rejoined the Celtics prior to the start of the 2012-13 season as a Community Relations Consultant. McCarty spent the 2010-11 season as an assistant coach with the Indiana Pacers after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville.

McCarty is a native of Evansville, Ind., and was an Indiana All-Star. He played collegiately at the University of Kentucky, where he was part of the Wildcats’ NCAA championship team in 1996. A first-round pick of the New York Knicks (19th overall) in 1996, McCarty played for the Knicks, Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers before retiring after 10 seasons in the NBA and joining Coach Rick Pitino’s staff.

McCarty earned a B.A. in communications at Kentucky in 1996. He and his wife Erin have two daughters, Gabrielle and Sasha.
