Celtics Acquire Future Value In Antoine Walker Sign & Trade
The Boston Celtics announced today that they have acquired a trade exception, a 2006 second round draft choice, a future second round draft choice, cash considerations, forward Qyntel Woods and the draft rights to forward Albert Miralles from the Miami Heat, as well as center Curtis Borchardt from the Utah Jazz in a five-team trade also involving the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Orleans Hornets. In turn, Miami receives forward Antoine Walker from Boston, guards Jason Williams, James Posey and Andre Emmett from Memphis and the draft rights to center Robert Duenas from New Orleans. Memphis receives guard Eddie Jones from Miami and guard Raul Lopez from Utah. New Orleans receives forward Rasual Butler from Miami and guard Kirk Snyder from Utah, while Utah receives center Greg Ostertag from Memphis.
“We’re very happy that we were able to facilitate Antoine Walker getting a deal that is equal to his value, and we thank him for his great service to the Boston Celtics,” said Boston Celtics Executive Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge. “In turn, we received future flexibility, as well as freeing up playing time for some of the young players on our roster that we are very excited about.”
Woods, a first round draft pick (21st overall) of the Portland Trailblazers in the 2002 NBA Draft, was signed as a free agent by the Miami Heat on January 26, 2005, after being waived by the Trailblazers on January 21, 2005. In 118 career games, mostly with Portland, he has averages of 3.1 points in 8.9 minutes per game. Woods scored a career-high 16 points vs. the Celtics on February 21, 2004 in Portland.
Miralles, a 6-10 forward, was drafted by the Toronto Raptors in the second round (39th overall) of the 2004 NBA Draft. His draft right were traded to Miami in exchange for the draft rights to Pape Sow and Miami’s 2005 second round draft choice. The native of Spain has spent the past three seasons in Italy, most recently with Vertical Vision Cantu in 2004-05 where he averaged 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per game. Prior to joining the Italian League Miralles played from 2000-2002 in the LEB League, and made his professional debut with Joventut Badalona “B” in the EBA League in the 1999-00 season.
Borchardt, a first round draft pick (18th overall) of the Orlando Magic in the 2002 NBA Draft, has appeared in 83 games for the Utah Jazz, averaging 3.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 13.5 minutes per game. The 7-0 center was acquired by Utah in a draft night trade in exchange for the draft rights to Ryan Humphrey and Jamal Sampson and missed the entire 2002-03 season due to surgery on his right foot. In 2004-05 he appeared in a career-high 67 games, averaging 3.0 points and 3.3 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game. He scored a career-high 12 points and grabbed a career-high 6 rebounds vs. Denver on March 30, 2005.
