With the 2005 NBA Draft rapidly approaching and the Celtics holding the 18th, 50th and 53rd picks overall, Celtics.com will be bringing exclusive behind the scenes info from some of the draft workouts held at The Sports Authority Training Center in Waltham.
Jason Maxiell is a 6-7 power forward out of Cincinnati. During his senior season with the Bearcats he averaged 15.3 points and 7.7 boards per game, as he was named Second Team All-Conference USA for the second straight season. For Maxiell, size may be the issue as 6-7 is small for a power forward in the NBA, but what he lacks in size he makes up with energy and sheer explosiveness. Maxiell led Conference USA in blocked shots and finished 18th nationally. Check out what Maxiell had to say after his workout for the Celtics.
Celtics.com: How do you think the workout went today?
Jason Maxiell: I thought it went pretty well; pretty well.
Celtics.com: Was this your first workout?
Maxiell: Actually this is my fifth workout, and I have to go to New York tomorrow.
Celtics.com: What strengths do you bring to an NBA team?
Maxiell: Well, defensively I am a good off the ball shot-blocker, and I can get a lot of rebounds with my reach.
Celtics.com: What does it mean to you to come in here to Boston and see all the championship banners and retired numbers hanging in the facility?
Maxiell: I get to come here and work out for a legendary team. Seeing those numbers up there on those banners, I know that I could become part of a legendary team and try to produce another championship banner.
Celtics.com: What are your draft expectations/preferences?
Maxiell: I’m praying for a late first-round (selection), depending on my workout in Chicago (Pre-Draft Camp). If the Chicago workout goes well then that will serve me well.
