Celtics tip-off the 2007-08 season with a day of fun and entertainment for fans, including a special tribute to the late Red Auerbach

BOSTON (November 1, 2007) - The Boston Celtics, led by Captain Paul Pierce, tip-off the 2007-2008 season on Friday, November 2 against the Washington Wizards. The game, which marks the regular season debut of new Celtics Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, will be broadcast live on ESPN and Comcast SportsNet New England and on the radio on the Celtics new flagship station, WEEI-AM 850.

Prior to the opening tip-off at 8:00 p.m., the Celtics have planned a special tribute for the late Red Auerbach, who passed away on October 28, 2006.

Other highlights of opening night will include the team giving away 20,000 "Rally Towels" courtesy of Aquafina and Rite Aid Pharmacy, Epic recording artist Kat DeLuna singing the National Anthem and a special halftime performance by Blue Man Group.

Festivities will begin outside the TD Banknorth Garden with a four-hour block party presented by Pepsi on Causeway Street from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. The block party will feature appearances by Celtics legends JoJo White and Dana Barros, free food sampling, an obstacle course, Bungee run, interactive inflatable elements, games, face painting, and a small basketball court on-site. An appearance will be made by members of the Celtics Dancers, and Celtics mascot LUCKY will entertain fans.

"We are excited to tip off a new era in Celtics basketball for our fans," Celtics President Rich Gotham said. "We encourage fans to get to their seats early and take part in the exciting pre-game festivities."
