The Celtics held a six-point lead at halftime, but they came out flat in the third quarter and eventually fell to the Knicks 87-71 Tuesday night in Madison Square Garden. Boston shot just 19 percent in the final two quarters en route to 23 second half points after shooting a stellar 56 percent in the first half.
Kevin Garnett netted 12 points and tied for a game high in rebounds with 11, all while playing just 24 minutes due to foul trouble. Paul Pierce scored a team-high 18 points to go with six rebounds and six assists. Carmelo Anthony had 34 points for New York.
