Celtics, Nesquik Host Basketball Shootout

NESTLÉ Nesquik and the Boston Celtics teamed up on March 26, 2014 to host a Basketball Shootout on the parquet floor to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. More than 40 youth from Charlestown, Chelsea, Dorchester and South Boston were put onto teams that competed against each other and the clock to sink the most baskets from designated spots on the court. The shootout was led by Celtics Legend Dana Barros, with appearances also from Celtics Legend/Assistant Coach Walter McCarty, the Nesquik Bunny, and Lucky the Leprechaun.

At the end of the pregame shootout, two teams were recognized as the winners and awarded the chance to compete in the same style shootout during the Celtics game at halftime. These lucky 10 participants also got to meet Celtics guard Jerryd Bayless during warm ups and took a group photo with him at center court.

“I was excited to work with Nesquik to provide the children of Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston opportunities for active play and to teach them the importance of fueling that activity with nourishing and delicious snacks such as Nesquik low fat chocolate milk,” said Bayless.

All youth participants got to stay and watch the Celtics take on the Raptors. The competition at halftime was close, as the winning team scored just one point more than the opposing team, sinking 39 baskets in two minutes. Following the final round, Nesquik presented a check at center court to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston in the amount of $10,000. This generous donation will be used to purchase sports equipment for after-school programs to encourage daily physical activity and fun play for children and families in the Boston Area.

“Providing opportunities that encourage kids to be more active is what Nesquik is all about,” said Daniel Koch, Marketing Manager for Nesquik. “We’re thrilled to support the families in this community with an exciting and memorable event with the Celtics.” said Koch.

The night was a memorable one for each and every participant. It gave them the chance of a lifetime to shoot hoops on the famed Celtics parquet floor. Thanks to the Celtics and NESTLÉ Nesquik, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston will have the proper funds to boost active play for their youth going into the summer months.
