BOSTON - The Boston Celtics announced today that the club will hold its 2004 training camp in Vermont from Tuesday, October 5 through Sunday, October 10.

The Celtics, entering their first training camp with new Head Coach Glenn “Doc” Rivers, will travel north and hold camp at the University of Vermont, with practices taking place at the Patrick Gymnasium. Patrick Gym, the home of the University of Vermont men’s and women’s basketball teams, is a 3,228 seat gym that also hosts the University volleyball program as well as a wide variety of athletic and non-athletic events.

“I appreciate the University of Vermont opening their doors to us,” said Celtics Head Coach Doc Rivers. “I believe getting away will afford us the opportunity to get to know each other and allow us to become closer as a team.”

“We are very proud to welcome the Boston Celtics to the University of Vermont and the Burlington area,” commented Vermont Senior Associate Athletic Director Jeff Shulman. “We are also very proud of our men’s and women’s basketball programs, and it is great to have them associated with one of the most storied franchises in the history of the NBA.”

This marks the Celtics third appearance at Patrick Gym, as they previously played a pair of exhibition games in the 1960’s. Boston held an intra-squad game in the fall of 1967 and prior to the following season, they played the Philadelphia 76ers at Patrick Gym.

Practices will be closed, but media wishing to attend should contact the Celtics Media Relations Department. The team will hold a Green-White scrimmage on Saturday, October 9 at 7:00 PM. Ticket information will be available at a later date through the University of Vermont Box Office.

Following training camp, the Celtics will open their preseason schedule on Tuesday, October 12 in Manchester, N.H. as they take on the Chicago Bulls. The preseason concludes with a game versus the NBA Champion Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, October 27 at the FleetCenter. For more information log onto Celtics.com.
