There are not many times throughout the course of the year that the men who built the Celtics dynasty - and the man who maintains its upkeep - all assemble in one place.
But one guarantee is at the Red Auerbach Youth Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament at Kernwood Country Club in Salem, Ma. It not only raises thousands of dollars for The Red Auerbach Youth Foundation, but now also has come to mark the start of the new season.
"Red is the lifesblood of the Boston Celtics, the god father, the man who created everything there is about the Boston Celtics, he has done so much for so many people that they want to pay back anyway they can," said John Havlicek. "This is obviously one of the ways we can do it."
The golf tournament, which is put together by the Red Auerbach Youth Foundation, raises money to help fulfill Auerbach's mission - which is to bring children from all racial, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds together through sports programs and encourages participation in sports by children who might shy away from such organized activity.
"This is almost a tradition to kick off the season for the Boston Celtics," said O'Brien. "There is no better way to catch up with all the Celtics greats, and while you are doing it you are doing a very nice thing from the standpoint of the Red Auerbach Foundation."
