Mass. Lottery and Boston Celtics Team Up

$2 game offers over $19 million in cash prizes, second chances to win unique game-night experiences & authentic team merchanise, plus opportunities for Twitter followers to win bonus prizes in launch promotion.

BRAINTREE, MA - The Massachusetts State Lottery and the Boston Celtics will tip-off the 2012-13 season by adding a new game to their successful lineup of co-branded Instant Tickets. The 2012 Boston Celtics Instant Ticket, a $2.00 game, goes on sale at Mass. Lottery retailers statewide beginning Tuesday, October 2.

The new ticket’s front is emblazoned with an image of the banners commemorating the Celtics 17 championship seasons and will mark the Lottery’s fourth Celtics-branded ticket released since 2006. To date, the Lottery’s co-branded tickets with the team have generated sales of over $146 million and returned over $24.5 million in net profit to the Commonwealth. With a print run of 15.1 million tickets, sales from the 2012 Boston Celtics Instant Ticket are expected to reach $30.2 million and generate more than $5.8 million in local aid revenues which will be available for Massachusetts’ 351 cities and towns.

“We are excited to start the season by adding a new Celtics ticket to our Instant Ticket game portfolio,” said Lottery Executive Director Paul Sternburg. “Our partnership with the team over the past several years has not only generated millions of winning experiences for Lottery players, but also returned millions in local aid funding to the state’s municipalities. We look forward to this new $2 game posting equally successful results.”

The 2012 Boston Celtics Instant Ticket features over $19 million in immediate “scratch and win” cash prizes, including 15 top prizes of $50,000, the new ticket will also offer second chance opportunities through which players can enter their non-winning tickets to win unique game-night experiences, team-branded gear, authentic commemorative “banner year” collectables and more money – up to $50,000 cash - in a contest held on the famed parquet floor court during a Celtics home game.

“The new Boston Celtics Instant Ticket is another way for us to give our fans unique and memorable experiences,” Celtics President Rich Gotham said. “We hope to continue to build on the success of our previous Instant Games and continue with the tradition of the Lottery and the Celtics giving back to the community.”

In addition to the excitement of winning immediate “scratch and win” cash prizes and second chance bonus prizes, there will be another opportunity for lottery players and basketball fans to cheer rolled out along with the introduction of the 2012 Boston Celtics Instant Ticket. On October 2, the game’s first day of sales, the Lottery and Celtics will also launch #FeelingLucky – a Twitter-based promotion through which followers of the two organizations’ accounts (@MAStateLottery and @Celtics) will receive scavenger hunt-like clues on prize locations throughout the state where they can find, and win, four tickets to attend the Celtics Annual Open Practice at the TD Garden on October 28, 2012 and five 2012 Boston Celtics Instant Tickets. There is no purchase necessary to participate in the #FeelingLucky contest, which will run from October 2 - 5.
