Celtics Become Final NBA Team to Create a Dance Squad

BOSTON (May 12, 2006) - The Celtics Dancers have arrived! The Boston Celtics announced today the formation of their inaugural dance team for the 2006-07 NBA season. Prior to this announcement the Celtics were the only team in the NBA without a dance team.

"We are pleased to introduce the Celtics Dancers," Celtics Executive Vice President Rich Gotham said. "We pride ourselves in providing our fans with the highest level of entertainment from the moment they enter the arena until the final buzzer sounds, and we believe the Celtics Dancers will contribute to the exciting in-game experience for our fans."

Dancers interested in trying out for the team can access applications for the 2006-07 Celtics Dancers at www.celtics.com, which includes information on the auditions and team requirements. The first round of auditions will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 10 a.m. on the Celtics practice court at The Sports Authority Training Center at HealthPoint in Waltham, MA at 840 Winter Street. Registration will be held that morning from 8 - 9:30 a.m., and dancers should enter through the main Boston Sports Club entrance.

"We are looking for women who are both professional and well rounded in their dance background," said Marina Ortega, Director of the Celtics Dancers. "The goal is to put together a team that is fit, glamorous and has a strong commitment to the community, while embodying the pride associated with the Celtics mystique."

The Celtics will also involve their fans in the selection process through an interactive poll on Celtics.com (www.celtics.com). Fans will be invited to vote for their favorite dancer from amongst a group of finalists.

Final auditions (date and location TBA) will be judged by a panel consisting of local and national celebrities. The Celtics Dancers will perform at Celtics home games and will participate in various community and team functions.

"The Celtics' introduction of a dance team will enhance the overall entertainment experience for their fans," said Danny Meiseles, NBA Vice President, Production Development. "We are excited they are announcing the formation of the Celtics Dancers, and look forward to their squad joining the rest of the NBA dance teams at future league events."
