Gomes Named to NBA All-Rookie Second Team
BOSTON – The NBA announced today that Celtics forward Ryan Gomes was named to the 2005-06 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
Gomes, the 50th overall selection in the 2005 NBA Draft out of Providence College, appeared in 61 games, including 33 starts for the Celtics, averaging 7.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in 22.6 minutes per game. After the All-Star break the 6-7 forward averaged 12.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, while recording eight double-doubles.
On the season Gomes finished 4th among rookies in field goal percentage (48.7%), tied for 5th in rebounds per game (4.9) and 12th in points per game (7.6). He scored 10+ points 22 times, with the Celtics going 13-9 in those games, and he led the Celtics in rebounding 13 times. Gomes scored a career-high 29 points, to go with 11 rebounds vs. Philadelphia on March 8, and his 17 rebounds at Portland on February 24 matched Milwaukee’s Andrew Bogut for the most rebounds in a single game this season by a rookie.
Joining Gomes on the T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team are Raymond Felton (Charlotte), Danny Granger (Indiana), Luther Head (Houston) and Marvin Williams (Atlanta), while the First Team consists of Andrew Bogut (Milwaukee), Channing Frye (New York), Chris Paul (New Orleans/Oklahoma City), Charlie Villanueva (Toronto) and Deron Williams (Utah).
