(1962-78)
16-13 versus 76ers in the playoffs
"(The Philadelphia fans) used to throw orange juice containers; and eggs were a big thing back then, too. Every game there were eggs flying all over the arena. I remember shooting a free throw and almost thinking I was going to duck because a potato came down andhit the backboard and fell down. These were things that happened. Every once in a while a fan would come out of the stands and try to start a fight with a player. Philly fans were fanatics, but there were times that Boston fans tried to keep up with them in the egg throwing battles."
"I think the rivalry was great for the league. The two best centers in the League were at the middle of it one being an offensive machine and the other was a defensive machine. Because of that, I think there was a great deal of anticipation. They were both tremendous rebounders and there were times when they would get 30 or 40 rebounds in a game. We put the ball up a lot more than they do today. I donšt think the restraints that players have today would have held up when we played."
