Re: The Celtics' effort in Game 5:
"I loved our effort tonight. We missed so many open shots down that stretch. [It was] Maybe fatigue and maybe we just missed shots."
Re: Miami's hot shooting:
"Wade in the first half just killed us and made some very difficult shots. If you looked at the shots at the end of that game, we had open threes... They [the Miami HEAT] hit two threes with one second on the shot clock fading out. You can’t ask much more than that. As long as I know basketball, it’s a ‘make-miss’ league; it always will be."
Re: Nenad Krstic and Jeff Green:
"We were obviously limited, but Nenad played terrific. He was phenomenal and gave us one huge lift. For Jeff it was a great experience for him – it really is. I think he sees the level, and he will have this whole summer to think about it and work on it."
Re: Returning to coach next season:
“I’m leaning heavily to coming back [to coach the Boston Celtics]. I haven’t made that decision, but I can tell you I probably will. I’ve kind of come to that over the last couple of weeks. I’m a Celtic and I love our guys."
Re: The Celtics exiting the postseason:
“It’s a tough pill to swallow when you’ve played so hard throughout the regular season. When you had an opportunity to win a championship and you fall short its very disappointing. Miami really played great basketball."
Re: Boston's injury troubles:
“There is no excuse. Injury is part of the game. It is what it is. The good teams find ways to win. But I still believe that we had enough out there to win.”
Re: Being fatigued down the stretch:
“I didn’t get fatigued. Delonte West was playing well so Doc [Rivers] stuck with him.”
Re: Getting stops in the final frame:
“It’s not that we didn’t get stops. We couldn’t put the ball in the basket in the fourth quarter. They gave us problems as far as getting to the paint. Give a lot of credit to Dwyane [Wade], he attacked all night."
Re: The Celtics' team performance:
“We played great. LeBron [James] hit two contested three point shots. There is nothing you can do about that.”
Re: His performance in Game 5:
“I felt I could have done some more. I made some mistakes. I could have done some things differently. I’ve got to live with it.”
Re: His future in Boston:
“There’s a lot to my game that people haven’t seen. There’s a lot I can bring to this team.”
Re: Wanting to play the Celtics:
“It was a series all of us wanted really since training camp, because of our respect for them.”
Re: LeBron James' performance:
“We needed all of his talent as a two way player, to be an MVP that he’s been offensively, but also to be the best defensive player on the court and to impact every single position depending on what we needed. Down the stretch, that’s what greatness is all about.”
Re: Respect for the Celtics:
“No question about it, there is so much respect between both teams. The Boston Celtics has laid the blueprint for us to show us how to do it [win]. Hopefully we can continue to carry on the blueprint that they laid.”
Re: Facing Boston in the playoffs:
“If we would have went through this playoff series without playing Boston at any point it wouldn’t have been right... We’re trying to get to where they’re at. They’re at 17 championships, we have one. We have a long way to go."
Re: The Heat's performance as a team:
“It was a great team effort. So many different guys stepped up. James Jones had a big three, Joel Anthony with his rebounding, and Chris Bosh with a big move to tie the game up. Juwan Howard came out and played twenty minutes. He made as big an impact as anyone.”
Re: This series:
“I want to give all the credit in the world to the Boston Celtics and Doc Rivers. They pushed us every game, every second, every play, and every minute on the court. If we ever made a mistake they made us pay for it.”
Re: How winning this series felt:
“I think it feels great honestly. I knew deep down in my heart I couldn’t, even as much as I loved my teammates back in Cleveland, I couldn’t do it by myself against that team [Boston Celtics]. I knew that was a team that I wanted to get over the hump against. I just look at those guys and I see multiple threats.”
Re: Dwyane Wade's performance:
“At half time I told him that I had his back. D Wade [Dwyane Wade] had it going in the first half. You could tell how much he wanted this game."
Re: Winning the series in five games:
“I am proud of this team for closing out the series the first time we had a chance. I am proud of this city, for how they showed up tonight. It was an amazing atmosphere. We also have to give props to the Celtics. They are a fantastic team. No game was easy in the series. To compete with a team like that, night in and night out, was fantastic.”
