Pre-Draft Workout Interview: Keydren Clark
Celtics.com: How was the workout?
Clark: "The workout was a lot like I expected. After I talked with a couple of guys, they told me about that three minute run. It's the hardest thing here, like they said it was. But it only makes you that much better. I did the best I could and I think I had a good workout here."
Celtics.com: What's the scouting report on you?
Clark: "I consider myself someone who can basically do it all. At St. Peter's I didn't get a chance to play much defense because I had to do so much for the team. So when I get out here its more about showing people that I can defend. Playing against guys like Sergio [Rodriguez], who's projected to be a lottery pick, I can't help but step my game up."
Celtics.com: Where else have you worked out?
Clark: "This past weekend I worked out for Utah against Sean Dockery and Will Blaylock, and that was a great experience for me. The altitude got to me being a New York guy, but next is Orlando for Pre-Draft Camp. I've got a few days to rest and get myself ready to play against some of the top guys."
Celtics.com: So you're a New York guy, I take it you've played at Rucker?
Clark: "Yeah, I played Rucker this past summer..."
Celtics.com: What's the like? These workouts, this is obviously a much more structured format than streetball?
Clark: "If you're growing up in New York, you have to have the street game. You grow up and watch some of the best players at Rucker, and when hopefully when the time comes you go out there and do some of the things that they do. I think I averaged like 35 points when I was playing out there last summer, and it's an experience that any New York City kid lives for. It helps in this structured format because you have to have the mentality that it doesn't matter who you go up against."
Celtics.com: And a guy like you who isn't the tallest guy on the court, are you encouraged by things like Steve Nash winning back-to-back MVPs?
Clark: "Definitely. I look at guys like Earl Boykins, Mugsy Bouges, Spud Webb, Isiah Thomas; those guys have provided motivation for me. I see them and think, if I work hard, I can be there too."
How familiar are you with the Celtics and their situation.
Clark: "I'm somewhat familiar with them. I know they've got Delonte West at the point and a lot of guys who can play the wing. Boston would be a team that if they're looking for guards, I think I could fit in."
Are there things you find you need to work on after each workout?
Clark: "Every workout I go on I just try to be myself. Doing what I've done the last four years is what got me the opportunity to workout for these teams. I'm not trying to do things that I think they want me to do, I'm going to continue to do thing that got me to where I am. I shoot the ball real well, and I have nice range. I keep track of the shots the other guys made and try to do my best to distinguish myself that much more."
