Celts Thank Fans for Generosity
The American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay collected fan donations at four Celtics home games last week totaling more than $30,000. The Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation matched all fan contributions dollar for dollar. In addition, individual donations by Celtics players, coaches and basketball operations staff along with matching ownership group contributions putting the total amount raised to more $250,000.
"We are very gratified by the outpouring of support from our fans, players and entire Celtics family," said Steve Pagliuca, Trustee of the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation. "Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the tsunami victims in Southeast Asia."
Celtics captain Paul Pierce and guard Gary Payton pledging $1,000 per assist recorded on January 7 vs. Detroit and January 8 at Chicago. Combined, Payton and Pierce donated $19,000 to the relief efforts.
Fans who still wish to make a donation to aid the relief efforts should contact the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay or log on to www.bostonredcross.org.
