Boston, MA (September 30, 2004) – Boston Celtics Walter McCarty, Jiri Welsch and rookies Justin Reed and Delonte West surprised shoppers and Prudential Center employees yesterday afternoon with a lunchtime shootaround in the atrium of the Shops at Prudential Center. The players were joined by Celtics legend JoJo White, mascot LUCKY and a live broadcast by Eddie Andelman of 1510 AM The Zone.

“It was great to surprise the fans and see the look on their faces,” said forward Walter McCarty. “The players are all ready to go and start the preseason, and the fans today showed that they feel the same way and are looking forward to an exciting year.”

Fans were shocked to see a basketball court installed in the atrium, and were even more surprised to see members of the Celtics appear and start shooting baskets. Lucky fans were randomly selected from the crowd to participate in shooting contests and games of H-O-R-S-E with the players for a chance to win tickets to Celtics games, including opening night on November 3rd.

“We are very excited to be able to be a part of this event with the Boston Celtics,” said The Pepsi Bottling Group, Inc. Marketing Manager John Holloran. “We are happy to be able to participate in an event that reminds the fans that the excitement of Celtics basketball tips off soon.”

“We are happy to bring the fun and excitement of Celtics basketball to the fans through our partnership with Pepsi,” said Rich Gotham, Celtics Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Our players always enjoy the opportunity to go out into the community to meet and interact with fans”.

In November 2002, the Celtics entered into a partnership with PBG, declaring Pepsi as the “Choice of the Boston Celtics.” The Pepsi Bottling Group, Inc. (www.pbg.com) is the world’s largest manufacturer, seller and distributor of Pepsi-Cola beverages with operations in the U.S., Canada, Greece, Mexico, Russia, Spain and Turkey.
