Re: Forcing 28 turnovers:
"Well, we’ve been trapping. I’ve been talking about it a lot and over the past seven games it’s been paying dividends for us. It’s been terrific. I told our guys, we also broke our own record with deflections."
Re: Rajon Rondo late in the game:
"Well I thought we started walking the ball up the floor. I thought our tempo changed in the fourth quarter. You know, it’s funny: they went small, we went small, you would think your tempo would increase. We actually went the other way. I thought the biggest mistake I made, actually, is keeping Rondo in that long. I thought I took the gamble, and sometimes it’s a good one, sometimes it’s a bad one and I didn’t think this was a good one. I just thought he got tired."
Re: Kevin Garnett playing 40 minutes:
"He held up. And fortunately we are taking tomorrow off. Whenever you have an 8:00 game you’re taking the day off anyway. So, you know, I don’t want that but it had to happen tonight."
Re: Defending O.J. Mayo:
"It was good, the trapping. We just had to keep him in a box. He’s good. I mean, he’s really good. He’s strong as an ox, and he makes difficult shots. I think he’s shooting over 50 from the three. He’s just a tough guy to guard. Our thought was trying to make it (difficult for him) – and yet when you look at his numbers he still had 24 points and shot over 50%."
Re: Jeff Green:
"Jeff is staying aggressive. Jeff, we’ve just got to get him better. He’s still defensively, there’s things he’s got to do better. It’s on us to make him better, not on him. And that’s what we’re going to try and do."
Re: Coming out of game like this with a victory:
“This is a good win, especially with the huge road trip coming up. Our defense was kind of up and down throughout most of the night, but the positive part is we turned them over. We allowed them to shoot a high percentage, it says a lot about how this team has grown when you can win games like this."
Re: Playing heavy minutes:
"I felt good, I felt like this is our chance. We didn’t want to let this one get away. Especially with a huge road trip coming up this is a big win for us... When the game is tight - the type of game that was going on tonight - I’m really caught up in the game, not really thinking about my minutes. That’s the coach, he’s watching the game, seeing the floor game, seeing how I’m playing, seeing how I’m defending. If he sees I’m still playing at a high level he’s going to leave me out there.”
Re: The X-Factor in overtime:
"I think it just comes down to mental toughness. You get an edge out there,. You see the score go up, then you see a tie score, then the tendency is to get down, so you just have to really maintain a mental edge and just stay positive and know that you are gonna pull through. These types of long games, these types of marathon games can be really draining on you. I like the way we pulled through.”
Re: Playing against former his team recently, and Jason Terry's former team tonight:
“We’re 2-0 now. He missed a lot of shots, but he made them when they counted. The 3 and the jumpshot with the foul, but when you have those days but before the game I told him you helped me get mine, I’ll help you get yours, but we got the victory and that’s what matters."
Re: Being aggressive:
"Yes, I can’t let those shots get to me. I can’t get down because I missed an open shot or an open three or a layup. I gotta continue to attack the rim, continue to be aggressive.”
Re: If he liked the performance of the team:
“Most definitely, you see tonight we shot 43%, they shot 51%, we forced 27 turnovers, we only had 13, its tough to beat us when we are forcing turnovers and getting out in transition. Especially when you got a guy like Rondo and shooters like Paul and JET. We just gotta continue to focus on defense and get stops.”
Re: The game:
“Look at the stat sheet. What I am is encouraged. Because we got 28 turnovers and give up 34 points off turnovers and to be in the game against this team is an encouraging fact. It means we have a lot of positive upside to us and we gotta find it. We gotta find it with efficiency and we gotta do a better job at covering the ball one on one. We can do it, I believe in these guys I really do. We showed a lot of guts hanging in this thing and we gotta be able to make some plays.”
Re: Both teams getting exhausted:
“I think both teams did (run out of gas). And then what happened was Rondo got to the rim, we got to the rim once or twice and didn’t finish. And in 51 minutes you’re going to be tired I don’t care how great of shape you’re in. Playing 51 minutes in an NBA game, it’s going to be taxing. There’s positives in this game but ultimately we shot ourselves in the foot with turnovers.”
Re: His mentality about the result:
“We had our opportunities and I’m disappointed but I’m not disappointed.”
Re: The Mavs' turnover issues:
“I wish we could keep playing until we win. Nine turnovers just doesn’t cut it. When you get the ball you want to make a play, make a positive play for our team so turnovers really killed us. The team having 28 (turnovers) and me having 9 – we've got do better in that area.”
Re: His missed opportunities in extra time:
“I honestly should have made that left hand layup and then that three, I really wasn’t even ready because they weren’t leaving me all night so I kinda relaxed on that one, it was a heck of a pass and I should have made it but I was not ready and that’s part of the process, you have to be ready at all times.”
Re: What the team will take from the loss:
“We had some many opportunities to take control of that game and win but we came up short so we will probably look at some stuff tomorrow - I’m pretty sure. We have a pretty nice looking flight so we’ll probably look at some stuff tonight. Just find what we can get better at.”
Re: Coming up short:
“We was right there. We had turnovers that throughout the game killed us. We can’t beat anyone with that many turnovers.”
Re: The Mavs' run to get back in the game:
“When they made some stops I think we went small. I think we were able to make them take tough shots and that opened the game up for us. When we were able to do that we got back into the game and we was just playing ball. Everybody was making passes and looking for each other and that’s what you gotta play. We gotta make the passes and make simple plays.”
