Celtics Place Delonte West On The Injured List

BOSTON, MA (December 1, 2004) - The Boston Celtics announced today that they have placed guard Delonte West on the Injured List with a fractured right fourth metacarpal and have activated forward Tom Gugliotta.

The 6-4 guard underwent successful surgery Wednesday morning on his right fourth metacarpal at New England Baptist Hospital. The injury occurred during the second quarter of Sunday night's game in Miami. The surgery, in which the fracture was reduced and held with two screws, was performed by Dr. Drew Terrano and Dr. Arnold Scheller. There is no timetable set for West's return.

West, the 24th overall selection in the 2004 NBA Draft, has appeared in two games, averaging 3.5 points and 2.0 assists in 12.0 minutes per game. He missed the Celtics' first eleven games with a right thumb fracture.

Gugliotta, who was placed on the Injured List November 23 with lower back pain, has appeared in seven games, averaging 1.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in 12.9 minutes per game.
