2007 Draft Prospects - Al Horford
Horford capped off a remarkable NCAA career with his second championship at Florida. While never spectacular, Horford was the most consistent Gator this season and top offensive player in a very balanced attack. This junior may be the most NBA-ready player in the draft.
Horford possesses good size, strength and toughness to handle the physical rigors of being an NBA post player. He has excellent basketball IQ and should have no trouble picking up the intricacies of NBA defensive rotations. He projects to be a great rebounder and defensive presence in the paint. Horford is also an excellent passer for a big man and has above-average ball handling skills for a power forward. His mid-range game showed dramatic improvement during his junior season at Florida.
Horford really has no glaring weaknesses. He is a very solid all-around prospect. What does need some work is his offensive repertoire. At Florida, Horford's post moves looked a little robotic and he will need to become more fluid at the NBA level. He will also need to further develop his mid range game to become a more complete power forward.
Oden and Durant have grabbed all the headlines so far in this draft class but this two-time NCAA champion could provide the most immediate impact of any rookie next season. Horford is smart, very coachable and has the developed physical tools and skill sets to contribute immediately.
