Internet Operations Internship

Fall Semester 2007

The Internet Operations Intern will assist us in publishing Celtics.com in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Celtics.com is the official website of the Boston Celtics and is continuously updated with the latest news, features, videos, scores, results and information about the team.

The intern will assist the Internet Operations Manager in daily website publishing tasks, and contribute articles for the website. Website publishing experience is required; candidates should have background with HTML publishing for websites or blogs and broadcast email campaigns. Interns should have a strong interest in NBA basketball and a basic understanding of sports media and public relations.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students interested in online publishing and communications to get hands on experience at a professional sports team and the opportunity to work on a high profile, public website.

Duties and Responsibilities may include:

  • Publish content with NBA Content Management publishing tool
  • Format articles into HTML for website publishing
  • Posting articles and press releases
  • Assembling HTML emails for ticket and marketing campaigns
  • Write game previews and opponent match-ups.
  • Select and crop game action photos with Photoshop
  • Converting video clips for online delivery in Flash
  • Search Internet for Celtics and NBA related links and information
  • Proofread articles for content and grammar
  • Provide onsite reporting from Celtics games and practices, as well as contribute articles to Celtics.com

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of the NBA, and specifically, the Boston Celtics
  • Technical experience in publishing websites (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Understanding of, and experience with, Web Standards concepts and practices
  • Strong understanding of sports media, journalism and public relations
  • New Media, Mass Communications, Journalism or English major
  • Copyreading and editing skills
  • Photoshop and Flash experience a plus
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing environment.
  • Professional manner, positive attitude and willingness to learn

Additional requirements:

To qualify for an internship position with the Boston Celtics, all participants must be enrolled in a degree program, undergraduate (Junior or Senior year only) or graduate. Each candidate must be eligible to receive course credit toward their degree for the successful completion of such internship. All internships are non-compensated.
