CommUNITY Crew Event - BCYF

ROXBURY, Mass. – Several Boston Celtics Dancers and other members of the Celtics CommUNITY Crew volunteered their time Saturday at the Boston Centers for Youth Services (BCYF) Recreation Center. It was the opening day of the new center and Mayor Thomas Menino was in attendance for the opening ceremony. In an effort to encourage youth to exercise, events of the day ranged from basketball games to swimming in the indoor pool.

The 43 CommUNITY Crew volunteers dedicated their time to renovating the dance studio and multi-purpose room. Both were in need of a makeover and volunteers painted the walls green and white in addition to painting murals. Murals ranged from inspirational quotes from Martin Luther King, Jr., Martha Graham, and John Wooden, to Celtics logos and Championship banners. Saturday’s service was the initial start to a larger renovation of both rooms so that youth have a space to dance, do homework and play games.
