CommUNITY Crew Event - Center for Homeless Veterans
BOSTON - With Veterans Day just a week away, it was fitting that the Celtics CommUNITY Crew, in partnership with Arbella, volunteered on Wednesday at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans (NECHV).
Prior to their service work, volunteers were briefed on the center, and they were impressed to learn that not only does the NECHV provide housing, food, health and education services to veterans, but it also works with organizations such as Rosie’s Place to distribute items for people in need.
“This was definitely one the best volunteer experiences I have had,” remarked CommUNITY Crew member Nicholas Cacici. “Our work had a significant impact on so many people and they were very appreciative. I was able to bond with some great veterans, assist in resumè building, and also lend a hand in the kitchen.”
Volunteers like Cacici served in a variety of ways at the event; some were in the supply room making care packages for the new veterans that enter the center every day, while others met with veterans to help them with their resumès and interview skills. During lunch, Celtics Legend Dave Cowens, along with the 2008 Championship Trophy, met with veterans while other CommUNITY Crew members served meals.
The veterans were extremely appreciative that the CommUNITY Crew members took time out of their day to volunteer at the NECHV.
