Paul was joined by a number of his reading team members, including special guests Massachusetts Governor Jane Swift and Boston’s Mayor Thomas Menino. Also joining in the festivities at the Mozart School in Roslindale were teammate Mark Blount; Bernie Rogan, Shaw’s Supermarkets Manager of Public Relations; Rich Pond, Celtics COO/CFO; Ed Lacerte, Celtics Trainer; Sharon O’Brien, wife of Celtics Head Coach Jim O’Brien and Stacy Conner, wife of Celtics Assistant Coach Lester Conner.
The morning began with two young students greeting the Governor at the front door with a dozen yellow roses. The readers then broke into teams and read to students from grades one to four. At the end of the reading event, bookmarks were distributed to all of the school’s students as Paul and Mark encouraged them to keep reading!
The Read to Achieve program is an NBA initiative designed to promote the value of reading, and to build a lifelong love of reading in young people by providing greater access to books. Each month, the Celtics All-Star Reading Team visits the school with the highest level of participation of students in the Read to Achieve/ReadBoston program. The Boston Celtics Read to Achieve program is sponsored by Shaw’s Supermarkets.
