Celtics Women’s Group Presents The Boston Celtics Hero Book
First ever Celtics-themed children's book to be available at Borders and Walden Books locations throughout New England
Boston, MA (September 13, 2006) - The Boston Celtics announced today the launch of the team's first children's book, "The Boston Celtics Hero Book", produced by the Celtics Women's Group. The book is geared toward children and helps them identify characteristics they admire in other people while encouraging them to emulate those in their own lives. Local youth charities will receive donations of the book and it will go on sale to the public on September 13th at Borders and Waldenbooks locations and on here on celtics.com. All net proceeds from sales will go to support the charitable giving of the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation.
"The Celtics Women's Group is extremely thrilled to support this book because it was created in response to our discussions with leaders of local youth charities," said Judy Pagliuca, Celtics Women's Group Book Committee Co-chair. "They were in need of a book to teach children about having a positive focus in life and we feel this book fulfills that need in a fun and entertaining way."
To launch The Boston Celtics Hero Book, The Celtics and Borders are hosting an interactive event, featuring Celtics forward Ryan Gomes, legend JoJo White and local youth. During the event, children will sit down with Gomes and White to discuss their real life heroes and what characteristics make up a hero. Members of the Celtics Women's Group will also be on hand. The children will have an opportunity to have their books autographed by Gomes, White and the author.
The Boston Celtics Hero Book was a collaborative effort between Ellen Sabin, an award winning author, and the Celtics Women's Group. "We are excited so many members of the Celtics family participated in the production of this book," said Esta Epstein, Celtics Women's Group Book Committee Co-Chair. "We hope that children who read it will be encouraged to imitate the positive qualities they admire in others in their own lives." The Boston Celtics Hero Book includes a chapter entitled, "The Celtics Celebrate Heroes" with contributions from Celtics players and legends including Red Auerbach, Danny Ainge, JoJo White, Paul Pierce, Doc Rivers and many others.
