BOSTON (June 11, 2007) - Celtics players Ryan Gomes, Delonte West and Kendrick Perkins and nearly 3,000 walkers from across New England logged miles for miracles along the Charles River this weekend at NSTAR's Walk for Children's Hospital Boston. Children's Hospital patients, families, staff and partners laced up their sneakers and rallied to raise money to support Children's world-class patient care, research and community health programs. The goal is to raise more than $1 million at this year's Walk.
"We're grateful for each walker's commitment to raising funds for Children's high quality care and cutting edge research," said Dr. James Mandell, president and CEO of Children's Hospital Boston. "The Walk is a great family event-not only is it fun for everyone, it offers an additional benefit for the kids participating: they're learning at a young age the value of giving back to others."
The Walk, formerly called the Miles for Miracles Walk for Children's Hospital Boston, has raised more than $2.4 million for Children's Hospital through the efforts of nearly 9,000 walkers since 2003. For more information, visit www.childrenshospital.org/walk.
NSTAR, the electricity and natural gas company that serves over 1.4 million customers in Massachusetts, this year signed on to be the named sponsor of the Walk for the next five years. NSTAR is also lending expertise to promote and help increase participation in the Walk. Nearly 200 NSTAR employees walked as part of the NSTAR Walkers Team this Sunday.
