BOSTON – Inspired by the October issue of Sports Illustrated Kids, Celtics guard Jordan Crawford wanted to bring the spirit of Halloween to the local youth of Boston.

Wednesday evening, athletes from the Boston Police Athletic League of East Boston were welcomed into the TD Garden for an exclusive pregame meet-and-greet hosted by Crawford. The youth all received gift bags packed with Crawford’s favorite treats including skittles and cupcakes, copies of Sports Illustrated Kids, NBA trading cards, a T-shirt and a Celtics basketball.

Crawford explained, “I played in the Police Athletic League in Detroit growing up. It’s important to give back and encourage kids to keep working hard.”

The guard spent time answering questions from youth on the value of respecting others, staying focused in school and never giving up on their goals.

When asked by a coach how to help youth athletes perform to the best of their ability, Crawford simply responded, “Keep the game of basketball fun. That’s what it’s all about!”

Following this piece of advice, Crawford announced he had one more trick up his sleeve for the group. The youth screamed when a pile of new basketballs, nets, whistles, and gym bags were revealed for them to use in their league. On behalf of the Police Athletic League, Boston Police District 7 Youth Service Officer Danny Long expressed his sincere gratitude for the donation.

During a holiday commonly associated with spooky tricks, Crawford truly brought the simple joy of treats to the youth of East Boston.
