CommUNITY Crew Tips Off New Season
BOSTON – The first Celtics CommUNITY Crew event of the 2012-13 season, in partnership with TD Bank, kicked off on Monday. Celtics guard Jason Terry joined volunteers from the Celtics and TD Bank staffs to prepare and serve meals to hundreds of guests at Pine Street Inn. The dinner meal for the day was donated by the CommUNITY Crew.
“It was great being here today,” said Terry. “I’ve met so many amazing people and I’m glad they have a wonderful resource like Pine Street Inn to help them during tough times. That’s what being a community is all about – helping those in need in order to build a stronger community.”
Pine Street Inn prepares 3,000 meals a day in an effort to assist those in need. Twelve volunteers helped to prepare those meals on Monday morning. Some of the tasks included dicing onions and celery and preparing bagged lunches. For the evening volunteer shift, 40 members of the CommUNITY Crew served a sit-down meal to guests in both the women’s and men’s dining areas, with ice cream sundaes being an added bonus to the delight of each guest. Additionally, Terry signed autographs for every guest.
It was a memorable night and a great way to kick off the season’s CommUNITY Crew events. To learn more about Pine Street Inn and how you can volunteer please visit http://www.pinestreetinn.org.
