Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Dr. Perry Rosenthal is the president and founder of the Needham non-profit organization, Boston Foundation for Sight. Dr. Rosenthal also invented and developed the Boston Ocular Surface Prosthesis, a procedure that restores vision in individuals with severe corneal disease. Its success rate is over 90% and has changed the lives of more than 2,000 patients.

This procedure has been especially impactful for members of our armed forces injured in combat and is the only means of saving the eyes of our wounded soldiers whose lids have been lost in roadside bomb explosions. Boston Foundation for Sight is committed to providing this procedure to anyone that needs it; no patient is turned away due to an inability to pay.

For his life-altering medical advancement and generosity to all, please welcome tonight's Hero Among Us Dr. Perry Rosenthal!

October 28, 2008 - Kathy Greene

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Kathy Greene was in her Bridgewater home when her family heard screams coming from a neighbor's yard. Kathy rushed to help and saw an unconscious two-year old in his father's arms.

Kathy learned that the toddler had fallen into the family pool and used her background as a medical assistant to immediately begin performing life-saving measures. As a family member called 911, Kathy began CPR. A few minutes later, paramedics arrived on the scene and airlifted the toddler to Children's Hospital. Thanks in large part to Kathy's quick response and poise under pressure, tragedy was averted and the toddler is now completely healthy.

Please welcome tonight's hero among us, Kathy Greene!
