Celtics Recognize the "Heroes Among Us"

New England is home to many individuals who have made an overwhelming impact on our community, positively affecting the lives of others. For the fourth season, the Boston Celtics will recognize an individual or individuals at each home game who have made a special contribution.
Here are the October 2000-01 "Heroes Among Us":

Matthew and Miriam Gannon - (pictured with Antoine Walker and Bo Outlaw) The Gannons were awarded the International Family of the Year Award by the Knights of Columbus for adopting children of all ages, races and backgrounds from the Department of Social Services and Catholic Charities. The couple has raised an astounding 24 children, a daughter born to them and 23 adopted boys and girls. They have also shared their home with more than 50 foster children.

Michael Obel-Omia - (pictured with Antoine Walker and Ray Allen) A Big Brother and board member of the Robert Kennedy Children's Action Corps, Michael became the chairman of their Rodman Ride for Kids team in 1997. To date, he is the event's single largest fundraiser, raising $17,500! Michael is also the Director of Admissions for the Roxbury Latin School.
