Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Maria Trozzi, director of a nationally recognized grief program at Boston Medical Center, has helped thousands of families during their most difficult times. A few years ago, while at work, Maria met the Henry family who had just arrived to Boston following the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

Stunned to learn that the family had lost everything, Maria and her husband, Peter knew they had to help. Amazingly, they raised over $10,000 for the family helping to secure a home for them as well as furniture, food and clothing. Thanks to Maria’s generosity, the Henry family is thriving with both parents working and the children excelling in school!

For her selfless dedication to those in need, please welcome tonight’s Hero Among Us, Maria Trozzi!

March 25, 2012 - Eric Neill

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

For the past eleven years, Director of Theater Operations Eric Neill has served as guardian of the Citi Performing Arts Center. On any given day it is his duty to respond to medical emergencies, security breaches and natural disasters while putting first the safety and security of over 3,000 patrons.

Prior to working with Citi, Eric received the National Defense Service Medal for his efforts in Haiti while serving in the United States Coast Guard. His previous experience helps him remain calm and reassuring no matter how critical the situation and Citi is very grateful to have Eric on their team!

For his dedication to providing safety to others, please join us in welcoming Eric Neill as tonight’s Hero Among Us!

March 9, 2012 - Mike McCart

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

For the last seven years Mike McCart has committed countless hours mentoring youth at Horizons for Homeless Children. As a volunteer Playspace Activity Leader, he gives children a chance to escape their tough situations and be a kid for a few hours each week.

Wanting to do more to help the over 100,000 homeless youth across Massachusetts, Mike became a founding member of the Playspace Activity Leader Council and Relations Committee. These initiatives have enabled him to advise and guide new activity leaders and to date the Playspace program amazingly reaches over 2,200 children each week!

For selflessly devoting his time to enrich the lives of homeless youth, please join us in welcoming Mike McCart as tonight’s Hero Among Us!

March 6, 2012 - Gregg Beloff

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Gregg Beloff (bEE-lof) has dedicated his life to helping those with disabilities. While serving 10 years as a head basketball coach for Special Olympics, he knew there was even more work that needed to be done.

Realizing that funding was necessary in order to maintain programs, Gregg founded Bio-Ball in 2005, a fundraising event benefitting Special Olympics Massachusetts. To date, Bio-Ball has amazingly raised over $500,000 and for his efforts Gregg was inducted into the Special Olympics Massachusetts Hall of Fame!

For his unwavering commitment to help sustain and improve Special Olympics programs, please welcome tonight’s Hero Among Us, Gregg Beloff!

March 4, 2012 - Nate Richards

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

For the past four years, 16-year old Nate Richards has been an advocate for disabled youth. His journey began in middle school when he created an awareness program to prevent disabled youth from being bullied.

While continuing to speak on behalf of his awareness program each year, Nate has become a counselor at Easter Seals summer camp and courageously testified on Beacon Hill to push for the passing of the Disability History bill. Due to his ground-breaking efforts, he received the first ever Youth Advocate of the Year award from the Massachusetts Advocates for Children!

For his dedication and commitment to improving the lives of disabled youth, please welcome tonight’s Hero Among Us, Nate Richards!

March 2, 2012 - Michael Casey

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Last January Michael Casey was scraping paint off the side of his house when a car came barreling through his back yard and crashed into a tree.

Michael rushed to the scene to find an unresponsive elderly woman at the wheel as the car began to catch on fire. Without a moment’s hesitation, he raced to his home to get a hammer. Minutes before the car was engulfed in flames, Michael managed to break a window and wrestle the woman out of the burning vehicle!

For his quick thinking and heroic actions, please join us in welcoming Michael Casey as tonight’s Hero Among Us!
