December 31, 2010 - Dave Cummings

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Since Veterans Day 2009, Dave Cummings has dedicated his life to supporting our troops. He set his sights on shooting an incredible 1 million free throws while collecting donations and raising awareness for the needs of our soldiers.

Dubbing his quest “Hoops for Heroes,” Dave spends a few hours every day shooting foul shot in local gyms. So far, Dave has made over 560,000 free throws and has generated over $42,000 dollars in donations to benefit the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. {At this point we'll have Lucky deliver a ball to Dave and escort him to the free throw line to take a free throw}

In the spirit of the New Year, Dave made 2,010 free throws earlier today and right now here comes number 2011 for the Fallen Heroes Fund! Please join us in recognizing tonight's Hero Among Us, Dave Cummings!

December 22, 2010 - John Brady, Ryan Martin, Tim Bracee and Mike Dion

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

John Brady was working at a bar in Lowell when he noticed flames rising from a multi-family home across the street. Without hesitation, he grabbed three friends and they quickly ran to the building.

As smoke engulfed the building, they kicked in the front door and ran into the blaze. They then woke up the residents and helped each family to safety. Due to their quick thinking and courageous actions, tragedy was averted and all of the families made it out safely.

For their brave and heroic rescue of over a dozen people, please join us in recognizing John Brady, Ryan Martin, Tim Bracee (Bray-cee) and Mike Dion (Die-On) as tonight’s Heroes Among Us.

December 19, 2010 - Ethan Daniel

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Ethan Daniel, an eleven-year old was at home in Dorchester with his five younger siblings and pregnant mother when disaster struck. Suddenly, his mother collapsed due to a complication with her pregnancy.

Amazingly, Ethan maintained his composure, immediately called 911 and kept his siblings calm. He then prepared his five siblings for departure while tending to his mother. As the EMTs arrived, Ethan led his brothers and sisters to the awaiting ambulance and the family was rushed to the hospital. Due to Ethan’s quick and decisive actions, the lives of both his mother and sister were saved.

December 16, 2010 - Specialist Andy Kingsley

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Specialist Andy Kingsley arrived in Afghanistan this past January and quickly became close with the twelve artillerymen in his unit.

In July, Kingsley and his unit were suddenly attacked by Taliban insurgents. His unit ran for cover in their bunker. Kingsley arrived first, but stepped aside to direct his comrades to safety. Just after he pushed the last soldier inside, the bunker was hit. The attack blasted him into the air. Kingsley was severely injured, losing his right leg and suffering other major injuries.

For his dedication and loyalty to both our country and his fellow soldiers, please join us in recognizing Specialist Andy Kingsley tonight’s Hero Among Us!

December 8, 2010 - First Lieutenant Kyle Snook

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

First Lieutenant Kyle Snook graduated from West Point in 2008, following in the footsteps of his entire family. After graduation, he quickly rose through the ranks to become a platoon leader in Afghanistan. Though he was younger than the 30 men he commanded, he was a strong and efficient leader.

In September while in Afghanistan, Snook’s platoon faced gunfire. As he fearlessly directed his men, Lt Snook stepped onto a hidden IED which shattered his foot. As a testament to his bravery and leadership, Lt. Snook was recently awarded the prestigious Purple Heart.

For his unwavering dedication and service to our country, please join us in honoring First Lieutenant Kyle Snook as tonight’s Hero Among Us!

December 3, 2010 - Tyler Healy

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Seven year old Tyler Healy was enjoying some leftover Chinese food with his mother Dawn. Suddenly Dawn began to choke and stopped breathing.

Tyler had choked the year earlier and was saved by the Heimlich maneuver. After that scare, Dawn taught Tyler the signs of choking and how to do the Heimlich maneuver. So, when Dawn began to choke, Tyler knew what to do. Slapping Dawn on the back didn’t work, so Tyler wrapped his arms around her and successfully gave her the Heimlich maneuver, saving Dawn’s life.

For his courage and quick thinking at such a young age, please join us in recognizing Tyler Healy as tonight’s Hero Among Us!

December 1, 2010 - Emerson Miller

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

In recognition of World AIDS Day, the Celtics are thrilled to honor Emerson Miller. 15 years ago, Emerson received a devastating diagnosis. He was positive for HIV. Rather than let his HIV diagnosis ruin him, Emerson has dedicated his life to helping others with HIV & AIDS.

Today, Emerson works for the AIDS Action Committee, where he oversees programs that include support groups and a groundbreaking wellness program for senior citizens with HIV. Emerson also devotes time to Positive Peddlers, a team of HIV positive bikers that rides in the 125-mile trek from Boston to Provincetown. Since 2003, the ride has raised over $2 million for HIV & AIDS patient support.

For his amazing testament to perseverance and tireless fight against HIV & AIDS, please join us in welcoming Emerson Miller as tonight’s Hero Among Us.
