November 29, 2013 - Marcie Martellucci

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

While at work earlier this month, Marcie Martellucci thought the day would be like any other. However, things quickly changed when a customer collapsed on the floor.

Realizing the man was suffering from a heart attack, Marcie rushed to his side. After instructing a staff member to call 9-1-1, she immediately began administering CPR. Amazingly, Marcie was able to keep him stable until help arrived and was instrumental in saving his life!

November 27, 2013 - Jack Cadigan

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Seventeen-year-old Jack Cadigan’s life forever changed last year while on a volunteer trip to Haiti.

During the trip, Jack learned he had a hole in his heart and after returning home had successful heart surgery to repair it. A month later, Jack was informed of a young girl in Haiti who had his same heart condition. Knowing he had to do something, he convinced his doctor to perform her surgery for free and was instrumental in coordinating her transportation to Massachusetts. Thanks to Jack, she had the surgery and is expected to make a full recovery!

November 22, 2013 - Jason Sissel

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Before Jason Sissel’s grandfather passed away from cancer, he asked Jason to carry on his spirit.

Taking his grandfather’s words to heart, Jason left his Wall Street job and founded a non-profit that provides children in cancer treatment with uplifting gifts and experiences. To help raise funds, he regularly takes on some of the most difficult endurance events in the world, including a run across the Sahara Desert and biking across the USA. To date, Jason and his team have incredibly raised over $150,000 and helped over 250 children!

November 15, 2013 - Juri Love

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Juri Love, a musician since the age of three, understands the importance of music in young people’s lives.

A proud promoter of the arts, Juri is the president and founder of Genuine Voices, a non-profit that teaches music to juvenile offenders and at-risk kids in the Greater Boston Area. Through music, Genuine Voices strives to build their creativity and increase their resilience. To date, thanks to Juri’s leadership, more than 600 at-risk young people are being provided music lessons!

November 13, 2013 - Steven Christopher

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Steven Christopher’s life forever changed last month when he heard a loud crash nearby on Route 9.

A flying tire had hit a woman’s car as she was driving causing the vehicle to flip and burst into flames. After hearing the woman’s cries for help, Steven immediately raced over to the scene. Without a moment’s hesitation he pulled the driver from the sunroof of the car and successfully dragged her away from the wreckage. Thanks to Steven’s selfless act, the driver survived this terrible accident!

November 11, 2013 - Colonel Enoch “Woody” Woodhouse

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

In honor of Veterans Day, the Celtics are proud to recognize Colonel Enoch “Woody” Woodhouse, a retired World War II vet.

Born in Roxbury, Woody became a commissioned airman at 19 and would go on to make history as a member of the famed Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American military aviators. Continuing to break down racial barriers in the military, he also worked as a JAG officer for the Navy. Woody risked his life day-in and day-out to ensure safety for our country!

November 6, 2013 - Chuck Burke

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

As Chuck Burke entered the Davis Square MBTA Station last month he never imagined he would save someone’s life.

While walking down the stairs Chuck heard a woman’s cry for help and immediately knew something was wrong. Realizing that a woman had fallen onto the train tracks he sprang into action without regard for his own well-being. Chuck jumped down onto the tracks and helped pull the woman to safety preventing what could have been a terrible tragedy!

November 1, 2013 - Wendell Williams

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Wendell Williams is the epitome of what it means to be an American citizen. A Vietnam veteran and retired prison guard, Wendell has dedicated the last eight years to mentoring youth through Boston Partners in Education.

A strong believer in showing kids the importance of education at a young age, Wendell visits Boston Public Schools on a regular basis empowering students. Since becoming a mentor, Wendell has incredibly worked with 20 kids as they continue to have success in the classroom!
