Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Jon Feinman has watched gang violence plague the city of Boston for years.

Knowing that he could use sports as a means to put an end to the terror that occur on our streets, he founded InnerCity Weightlifting, a non-profit organization dedicated to re-directing the aggression of gang members into the weight room. To date, Jon and his staff lead over 200 at-risk youth through Olympic-style weightlifting sessions and certify them to pursue personal training as a career!

For his continued dedication to keeping our streets safe and changing the lives of hundreds of youth, please join us in celebrating Jon Feinman as a Hero Among Us.

November 28, 2012 - Joe Spaulding

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Joe Spaulding has spent a quarter of a century advocating for the arts as President and CEO of Citi Performing Arts Center.

He has dedicated his career to safeguarding the importance of the arts not only in public schools but community centers, libraries and other public spaces. Additionally, he spearheaded the evolution of the Theatre District to be a thriving hub for Broadway blockbusters filled with local and international talent. To date, Joe has helped raise over $15 million to support the arts, which has provided over 200,000 youth and families with free arts education programs!

November 23, 2012 - Chris Byner

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Chris Byner has dedicated the last 18 years of his life to reducing violence in Boston through his work at Boston Centers for Youth & Families.

As the lead mediator in the city’s Streetworkers Program, he has helped troubled kids stay in school, built relationships with rival gangs and been the reliable, positive influence when youth have had nowhere else to turn. In the last year alone, Chris and his staff have incredibly conducted over 600 mediations between gang members in an effort to use words instead of guns to reduce the violence plaguing our city!

November 21, 2012 - Robert Iannetta

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Watertown Deputy Fire Chief Robert Iannetta has dedicated the last 21 years to serving others but never thought an emergency would happen so close to his home. Last May while Robert was off-duty enjoying some time with his family, he began to smell smoke.

Realizing the house behind his yard was on fire, Robert rushed directly inside the house to see if anyone was trapped inside. Despite not having any protective gear, he knew time was of the essence after discovering a teenage girl was in the house. Robert successfully rescued the girl before flames engulfed the building!

November 17, 2012 - Kira Andreucci

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

For the last two years, 12-year old Kira Andreucci has dedicated her time and resources to helping less fortunate youth.

After realizing that some of her classmates would go home on the weekends and have no food in their house, Kira quickly took action and founded Karing 4 Kidz. She worked with school officials to identify youth in need and created packages containing nonperishable, nutritious food items to give out on Fridays. Now in its second year, Karing 4 Kidz works with three elementary schools and provides over 50 families with meal packages every Friday!

For her selfless dedication to helping other youth, please help us celebrate Kira Andreucci as a Hero Among Us.

November 14, 2012 - John Reilly

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

For the last seven years, John Reilly has worked tirelessly to support Horizons for Homeless Children.

As Director of Public Relations at MFS Investment Management, John has organized company-wide coat and toy drives as well as volunteer events that have included serving dinner to Horizon’s children and families. Thanks to John and his co-workers, thousands of homeless youth have received warm coats, toys and countless other essentials. To date, MFS has amazingly donated over $1 million to Horizons and the youth they serve!

For his continued dedication to enriching the lives of homeless youth, please help us celebrate John Reilly as a Hero Among Us!

November 9, 2012 - Stanley Devilme

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

MGH Police and Security Ambassador Stanley Devilme (da–vill –may) is used to being surrounded by doctors, but he never imagined that he would be the one to save a person’s life.

While at work last August, Stanley witnessed physician Rachel Rosovsky (ro–za–ski) begin to choke and collapse on the pavement. Without a moment’s hesitation, he sprang into action and began to perform the Heimlich maneuver on his colleague. Thanks to Stanley’s poise under pressure he was able to quickly dislodge the obstruction and Rachel began to breathe normally!

For his life-saving actions, please help us celebrate Stanley Devilme as a Hero Among Us.

November 7, 2012 - Sister Ann Fox

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

For over four decades, Sister Ann Fox has dedicated her life to helping those in need not only in Boston but around the world.

Fifteen years ago, Sister Ann co-founded the Paraclete Foundation, an after-school program for low-income youth which, to date, has served over 1,000 families. Wanting to make an even larger impact on the world, she created the Marayundo School for Girls in Rwanda. Amazingly, Sister Ann has helped raise over $1 million for the school since it’s opening in 2008!

For her selfless commitment to educating youth, please help us celebrate Sister Ann Fox as a Hero Among Us.

November 2, 2012 - Glen Doherty

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Former Navy Seal Glen Doherty dedicated his life to protecting our country.

A native of Winchester, Glen always wanted to make a genuine change in the world and in 1995 realized his dream when he joined the Navy SEALS. During his decade-long service, he served two tours of duty in Iraq helping to bring peace to the country. Tragically, on September 11th of this year, Glen lost his life during an attack on the American Consulate in Libya. Glen will always be remembered for his selfless acts throughout his life!

Glen’s mother, Barbara, and sister, Kate, accepted the award on his behalf.
