June 17, 2008 - Dereck Raschke

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Dereck Raschke was getting fitted for a tux for his high school prom when he saw another customer collapse from a heart attack.

Fortunately, Dereck had just completed a CPR course at Newburyport High School. Although he had only performed CPR on a dummy, Dereck immediately rushed to the man's side, checked his breathing, gave him two short breaths and started compressions!

Thanks to Dereck's heroics, 63 year old Bert Carey began breathing again, made it safely to the hospital and is now doing well.

For his poise under pressure and life-saving actions, please join us in welcoming tonight's Hero Among Us, Dereck Raschke.
