John Jurczynski is an accomplished cyclist with a strong desire to help others. He combined these two passions to make a real difference for our community. This summer, John competed in a 3,000 mile bicycle race from California to New Jersey. John won the 50+ age bracket but more importantly, raised over $34,000 for diabetes research!

In December, John and a friend set the new World Record for the longest stationary bike ride as they rode for 113 consecutive hours! Even closer to John's heart than the world record, was the $36,000 they raised for children's charities.

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

A couple of weeks ago Mike Breen witnessed an SUV make a wrong turn and end up on an icy boat ramp. The vehicle jammed on the brakes but due to the icy conditions was unable to stop and skidded into the water.

Without hesitation, he yelled to bystanders to call 911 and jumped into the water. Mike swam toward the SUV that had floated 30 feet out from the ramp and saw a frantic woman trapped inside the vehicle.

Three other men joined Mike in the freezing water and were able to safely rescue the woman. For his selfless bravery and life-saving actions, please welcome Mike Breen!
