Dante was working the night shift for AAA when he heard a loud crash. He rushed over to investigate the situation and saw a mangled bicycle with a lifeless body trapped underneath. Dante rushed back to his truck, grabbed a tire jack, and elevated the car.

As the car lifted off the body, Dante saw the body expand with relief from the crushing pressure. Without Dante's courage and ability to think quickly, George Murray would most likely have died that night.

For his bravery and poise under pressure, please welcome tonight's Hero Among Us, Dante Carrioccia.

January 12, 2007 - Helen Lamb

Heroes Among Us

Helen Lamb, now 92, had an idea in 1953 that was truly revolutionary: Ms. Lamb believed that every child, even a child in a wheelchair with a profound disability like cerebral palsy, deserved to experience the simple joys of childhood like going to the beach on a summer day. With this in mind, she began "Camp Jabberwocky" with two severely disabled youngsters at a tiny cottage on Martha's Vineyard.

Over the last 53 summers, thousands of people with disabilities and their volunteer counselors have enjoyed this vacation camp.

For her pioneering spirit and dedication to those with disabilities, please welcome tonight's Hero Among Us, Ms. Helen Lamb.

January 22, 2007 - Kevin Sullivan

Heroes Among Us

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery.

Kevin, a highway department employee, was working on Interstate 495 when he saw a tractor-trailer speeding directly towards a highway work crew and a police officer on duty. To protect the others, Kevin moved his truck to absorb the impact of the crash.

Kevin's vehicle smashed through the guardrail, flipped over three times, and landed on its side. Without Kevin's amazing bravery, Officer Fitzgerald would probably have died that day.

For his selfless and courageous act, please welcome tonight's Hero Among Us, Kevin Sullivan!

Tonight please welcome Danny Vieira!

Transit Police Officer Vieira was on duty Monday night when he saw a distraught man standing on the subway tracks in an apparent suicide attempt. Danny made an emergency radio call to stop all trains, but one train speeding into the station did not receive his call. Putting himself into danger, Danny lunged down and lifted the man off the tracks onto the platform and out of harm's way. According to the train operator, without Officer Vieira's quick thinking, the train would not have been able to stop in time.

The Heroes Among Us award is a program of the Boston Celtics, presented by the Mass State Lottery, represented here by Brian O'Brien.

Tonight please welcome Brooke Rallis.

This summer, Brooke, took what she thought was an uneventful fall while on her summer job. That fall resulted in a torn vein in her neck, and at days end she was in the ICU on a ventilator and paralyzed from the neck down. Doctors delivered the harsh prognosis that Brooke would never move again.

Courageously, she refused to accept this diagnosis. Against all odds, three months after the fall, Brooke shed the ventilator, and began to walk again with the aid of a walker. As one of only seven people to have overcome such an extreme spinal injury, Brooke has dedicated her life to inspire others as the power of faith, courage, and tenacity.
