Celtics Guard Gary Payton Assists Families in Need with Thanksgiving Meal

Nine-Time NBA All-Star Gives Away 200 Turkey Dinners to Families in Dorchester, MA

DORCHESTER, MA (November 20, 2004) - Celtics guard Gary Payton helped make Thanksgiving a little more complete for families in Dorchester this afternoon when he gave away 200 turkeys at the Blue Hill Boys & Girls Club/George Robert White Youth Development Center.

"I am glad that I am in a position to come into the Boston community and help those less fortunate," Payton said. "I always enjoy being able to go out into the community and help the fans in any way possible, especially around the holiday season."

Through The Gary Payton Foundation, the Greater Boston Food Bank, Shaw's Supermarkets and The Pepsi Bottling Group, Inc., Payton provided each family with a turkey dinner complete with cranberry sauce and stuffing, a $25 gift card to Shaw's Supermarkets, Pepsi products and two tickets to an upcoming Celtics game.

"We are happy we were able to work with Gary on this event," said John Holloran, Marketing Manager of The Pepsi Bottling Group, Inc. "Anytime we are able to help the community and have a positive impact on someone's life, we are pleased to do so."

"Anytime we can help out in the community, we are happy to do so," said Shaw's Supermarkets Brand Manager John Robertson. "We are pleased to work with Gary on his community initiatives and to support The Gary Payton Foundation."

The Gary Payton Foundation benefits underprivileged youth. It provides grants and supports community events that build opportunities in education, recreation, and overall wellness for at-risk youth who live in the greater Boston, Massachusetts region.

A charter member of the Basketball Association of America (which evolved into the National Basketball Association) since 1946, the Boston Celtics have won a record 16 NBA Championships, including eight (8) in a row from 1959-1966, and have won NBA titles in three different eras. In addition, 29 former Celtics players, management or staff have been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
