Celtics, Citizens Bank & Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Honor Exceptional High School Students
Two Students from Boston Latin School receive 2004 3C's Scholarships
BOSTON, MA (December 15, 2004) - The Boston Celtics, Citizens Bank and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce tonight awarded 3C's Scholarships to two outstanding Boston high school students. Burton Shen of Brighton and Sarah Nguyen of Boston were recognized for demonstrating leadership skills through excellence in their community, academic and athletic endeavors.
Shen and Nguyen are both students at Boston Latin School and were honored at halftime of the Boston Celtics game against the Denver Nuggets at the FleetCenter. Honoring Shen and Nguyen at center court were Boston Celtics (PLAYER), Celtics Legend and Director of Special Projects JoJo White, Celtics Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Rich Gotham, Senior Executive Vice President and Director of Retail Banking for Citizens Bank of Massachusetts Cathy Schmidt and Paul Guzzi, CEO of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.
"The Celtics are proud to award the 3 C's Scholarship to remarkable young people such as Burton and Sarah to carry on their education and continue to give back to the community," Gotham said. "Thanks to our partners Citizens Bank and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, we can continue to honor these outstanding individuals every year."
The 3C's Scholarship, created by the Boston Celtics, Citizens Bank and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce in 1998, and is awarded annually to one male and one female Boston public high school senior. Each student will receive $2,000 toward each year of his or her college education.
"Burton and Sarah have demonstrated a strong commitment to success both inside and outside the classroom," Schmidt said. "Citizens is proud to reward them for their hard work and help contribute to furthering their educations."
The 3C's Scholarship stands for more than the names of its sponsors. It also represents the ideals of citizenship, character and college - all characteristics that will help to prepare young people to be tomorrow's leaders.
"The Chamber is proud to collaborate with the Boston Celtics and Citizens Bank to create these valuable scholarships for Boston-area students," Guzzi said. "The 3C's college scholarships are an exceptional way to reward Boston public high school students who go above and beyond in community involvement, academic excellence, and sports achievement."
Citizens, the official bank of the Boston Celtics, has partnered with the team since 1997 on a variety of initiatives, including the 3C's Scholarship.
