Born August 4, 1987 in St. Petersburg, Florida… Full name is Marreese Akeem Speights… Attended Gibbs High School and Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg before spending his senior year at Hargrave Military Academy… Had his jersey number retired after one year at Admiral Farragut Academy… As a senior, averaged 17.9 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists… While playing for the Florida Gators, scored a season-high 16 points in just 10 minutes of play against Jackson State in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Tournament… Played alongside current NBA stars Joakim Noah and Al Horford at Florida… Appeared in three games for the Sixers in the Orlando Pro Summer League, averaging 12.7 points, a team-high nine rebounds and 1.33 assists in 29.3 minutes per game… In his rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers, Speights had a field-goal percentage of .502 from the field, playing 79 games, shooting .773 from the free throw line and notching two starts… Suffered a partial tear of his MCL during the fourth quarter of a game vs. Chicago on Nov. 14, 2009, missing 14 games before returning on Dec. 16… Bartended during a celebrity bartending event on April 15, 2010 to benefit the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House… Along with fellow Memphis Grizzlies, attended his first Staxtacular on Feb. 11, 2012, a team charity event to benefit the Stax Music Academy.
