Celebration to Tip Off with Tribute to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
Cavs vs. Orlando Magic Friday, February 8th at 7:30 p.m.

“Making a Difference” will be this year’s theme for the Cavaliers 9th Annual Black Heritage Celebration presented by State Farm to commemorate Black History Month. The BHC officially begins at the Cavs vs. Orlando Magic game on Friday, February 8th at 7:30 p.m., when the team will honor Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for 100 years of scholarship, sisterhood and service throughout the nation and Greater Cleveland.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. The sorority will be honored with a special presentation to include a video tribute and a step show performance by the Delta Kappa chapter of Central State University. Notable and local members of the sorority will be present for a dedication from the Cavaliers organization.

“This year, by example, our hope is to inspire others to make a difference,” said Cavaliers Legend and BHC committee member Campy Russell. “Celebrating black history is about more than acknowledging our past; it’s about inspiring our future, so our youth can realize the dreams of those that have come before them.”

Throughout the month, Cavs players and employees will participate in several community engagement events, which began on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (January 21st). This year, five scholarships will be awarded to Cleveland Metropolitan School District students during the BHC culmination on Friday, March 1st at the Cavs vs. Los Angeles Clippers game.

“State Farm Insurance is proud to be sponsoring the 9th Annual Black Heritage Celebration. From community outreach to diversity and inclusion, State Farm has placed serving the multicultural markets as a priority in the Company’s growth and retention efforts,” said Joel Mohler, State Farm’s marketing analyst of events and sponsorships. “Our diverse employee workforce, driven by our agents, is something that we take tremendous pride in and allows State Farm Insurance to create remarkable customer experiences.”
