Cavs Host Clinic at Columbus YMCA

Continuing on their #AllForOhio preseason tour, the Cleveland Cavaliers were in Columbus on Sunday evening to host local students for a private basketball clinic. The fun event was in advance of the team playing the Memphis Grizzlies at The Schottenstein Center on Monday night.

Cavs assistant coaches Bret Brielmaier and Phil Handy led 70 boys and girls ages 10-14 through a fundamental skills clinic at Eldon & Elsie Ward Family YMCA.

More news on the Cavs.

The young participants were visibly excited for the opportunity to learn from players Matthew Dellavedova, Joe Harris, Quinn Cook, Jared Cunningham, Austin Daye, Chris Johnson, Nick Minnerath and DJ Stephens – who were all at the local Y to lend a hand. The players guided the youngster through various ball handling, shooting and defensive drills.

And of course no Cavs event would be complete without a visit from fan-favorite mascot, Sir C.C., who stopped by to entertain the kids.

To ensure that all the boys and girls participating in the clinic could continue working on the skills they learned from the players and coaches on Sunday, each student left the Y with their very own Cavaliers basketball.

The YMCA’s mission is to serve the whole community through programs expressing Judeo-Christian principles that build a healthy spirit, mind and body. The Y is an inclusive organization of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility.
