Cavaliers Recognize Academic All-Stars
with Surprise School Visits!
Woodridge Intermediate Teacher and Hope Academy-Northcoast Student
Receive Special Recognition at Cavs Game
Each month, the Cleveland Cavaliers award one teacher and one student for their outstanding achievements through the team's Head of the Class and All-Star Kids programs. The Cavs recognize these winners with a surprise visit to their schools and present them with their award on the court before a Cavaliers game at Quicken Loans Arena.
The Head of the Class program, presented by KIA, recognizes teachers in Northeast Ohio for making a difference in their students’ lives both inside and outside the classroom. Teachers are nominated by their principals or peers, and the winners are chosen based on their outstanding contributions to education.
During the month of April the Cavaliers recognized Maureen Farris, a 3rd and 4th grade special education teacher with Woodridge Intermediate, as the Head of the Class winner. Cavaliers mascot Sir CC and in-arena host Ahmaad made a surprise visit to Farris’ school to present her with a $500 donation to use toward her classroom and a super-sized ticket to a Cavaliers game. In addition, Farris received two tickets to the Cavs vs. Detroit game on Wednesday, April 10th and dinner for two at The Q’s Court Club before standing center court to be honored for her achievement.
The All-Star Kids program, presented by Cuyahoga Community College, recognizes middle school students in Northeast Ohio who are setting a positive example for their peers through solid academic achievement or significant improvement in the classroom, positive attitude, good citizenship and community involvement.
Char'el Montgomery, a student from Hope Academy-Northcoast was selected as the All-Star Kids winner for April. She was surprised at her school by Cavs in-arena host Ahmaad and mascot Sir CC with the announcement in front of her class. In addition to receiving four (4) tickets to a Cavs game, Montgomery also received dinner for four at The Q’s Court Club and was recognized on-court prior to the Cavs vs. New York game on Friday, April 12th.
