Good afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. America and all the ships at sea! I’m an Optimist, and you lucky sons of a pup have stumbled upon a little something the makers of like to call NEWS … AROUND … THE … LEAGUE.

And as you meatheads know, the minute you’re done reading today’s column, Labor Day Weekend begins!!

As with any young up-and-coming team, there is plenty of uncertainty surrounding the Wine and Gold with Camp Scott rapidly approaching. We might not know the answers until April, but decided to pose the questions now …

1. What will the big man rotation look like?
The Cavaliers will go into this season with a good stable of young bigs. Anderson Varejao will be 30 when the season starts, but the next-oldest forward on the roster is Luke Harangody, who’s 24.

In the franchise’s 40-plus years of existence, only six Cavalier players – and one legendary announcer – have been immortalized in the rafters of Quicken Loans Arena.

Most fans easily recall three of those players – Mark Price (25), Brad Daugherty (43) and Larry Nance (22) – from a golden era of Cavaliers basketball: Lenny Wilkens’ squad from the mid-80s and early-90s. The other trio dates back to the mid-70s and the storied “Miracle of Richfield” season.

Good evening, Mr. and Mrs. America and all the ships at sea! I am the Optimist. You are Cavalier fans. And this is NEWS … AROUND … THE … LEAGUE. So, let’s get it on.

Unfortunately, we have way too much on our plate today to get bogged down in sentimentality. Let’s see if we can get through this column before we break out the hugs and handshakes.
