Donald Sloan speaks with the media following Saturday's practice at Cleveland Clinic Courts.
At one point during last Wednesday’s game in Atlanta, three of the Cavaliers on the floor – Manny Harris, Samardo Samuels and Alonzo Gee – were undrafted. (Recently-acquired guard – also undrafted – Donald Sloan ran the point at other moments of the game.)
In today’s NBA, that’s a rarity.
The sophistication and reach of league scouts almost guarantees that quality NBA players don’t fall through the cracks when David Stern takes the podium at Madison Square Garden in late June. It’s even less likely that they’ll slip past Adam Silver’s announcements in Round 2.
Friday night’s matchup with the Magic was an odd affair. The Cavaliers never seemed out of the game and, for most of the evening, they never seemed in it. Either way, the finally tally was the same – with the Wine and Gold dropping a 93-80 decision at the Amway Center.
The Cavaliers fell behind by double-figures late in the first quarter, and a 9-2 Magic run to end the first half sent them to the locker room down 15.

Manny Harris speaks with John Michael from Cavs.com at Friday's shootaround in Orlando as they prepare for the Magic.
The Wine and Gold dropped a dramatic overtime affair in Atlanta on Wednesday night, but look to bounce back in the Sunshine State this Friday. As they prepare for the Magic, here are some of the squad’s impressive integers.
.714 … Tristan Thompson’s free throw percentage (15-21) since his 21st birthday
8.7 … Kyrie Irving’s scoring average in the fourth quarter since January 27, best in the NBA
In two previous meetings against Atlanta, the Cavaliers lost by 27 and 16 points, respectively. But Wednesday’s one-point loss was easily the toughest.
At two separate points late in the affair, it looked like the Wine and Gold would snap the Hawks’ recent run against them, but on both occasions, the Hawks answered in dramatic fashion – sending the Cavs to the painful 103-102 overtime loss at Philips Arena.
