Good afternoon, Mr. and Mr. America and all the ships at sea! The caricature of that long-nosed diablo to your right – (my left) – can only mean that another week has come and gone and it’s time for another installment of that free-form, three-ring cavalcade of whimsy dubbed NEWS …AROUND … THE … LEAGUE.

As I mentioned in the first N.A.T.L. of the summer, I like a nice routine. But I’m also mindful to heed the words of 19th century Transcendentalist, Ralph Waldo Emerson, who said: “Foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.”

On Wednesday night, Nick Gilbert and the Cavaliers didn’t shock the NBA world like they did one year ago. But they still secured a pick that’ll propel them to the next level – landing the No. 4 selection in this June’s Draft.

As for the 2012 Lottery’s big winner, it was the New Orleans Hornets who, like the Cavaliers one year ago, battled through a rough transitional season to beat the odds and take home the top pick.

CLEVELAND, OH - May 30, 2012 - As a result of the 2012 NBA Draft Lottery, the Cleveland Cavaliers will have the 4th overall selection in the 2012 NBA Draft which will be held on Thursday, June 28th at The Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Cleveland now has the 4th and 24th pick in the first round and the third and fourth picks of the second round (33rd and 34th overall).
