Anderson Varejao Injury Update

CLEVELAND, September 2nd - Cleveland Cavaliers forward/center Anderson Varejao underwent successful arthroscopic repair of his dislocated right shoulder this afternoon at the Cleveland Clinic. The procedure was performed by Cavaliers Head Team Physician Dr. Richard Parker and Cleveland Indians Head Team Physician Dr. Mark Schickendantz.

Varejao, who averaged 4.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in 54 games as a rookie, will continue to be monitored and re-evaluated as he enters the rehabilitation process. He is expected to miss training camp and the beginning of the 2005-06 regular season. His status will be updated after that, as appropriate.

“We feel bad for Anderson. He worked very hard this summer. We know it is a difficult time for him, but we also know he’ll work even harder to rehab and come back strong. His return will give us something special to look forward to,” said Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry.
