CLEVELAND, OH - September 2, 2010 - The University of Akron’s Rhodes Arena will again be home to the Cavaliers Wine & Gold Scrimmage presented by FirstMerit, in association with the Akron Beacon Journal, Ohio.com, and WAKR Radio. The intra-squad scrimmage will be held on Friday, October 1st at 7:00 p.m. and is free to the public with an entrance voucher. Fans are invited to come early to enjoy the free Fan Fest outside Rhodes Arena starting at 5:00 p.m. The Wine & Gold Scrimmage will be the first opportunity for fans to see the Cavaliers on the court under the direction of new head coach Byron Scott.
Beginning Tuesday, September 7th, vouchers will be available, while supplies last, at all FirstMerit branches located in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit and Wayne counties. Although the scrimmage is open to fans of all ages, only those 18 years or older may pick up vouchers. Click Here for a complete list of FirstMerit locations.
Vouchers can be redeemed for free general admission tickets prior to the event (one ticket per voucher) at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field Main Ticket Office, near Gate 1 at The University of Akron (Mon - Fri. 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.), or the Quicken Loans Arena box office (Mon. - Sat. 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Sun. noon - 5:00 p.m.). Vouchers can also be redeemed for admission tickets (while supplies last) at Rhodes Arena starting at 5:00 p.m. on the night of the scrimmage, Friday, October 1st.

“As a Cavs partner for the 20th straight season, we’re excited to present the Wine & Gold Scrimmage and give fans an early look at this year’s great team,” said Jim Brocklehurst, FirstMerit retail executive vice president.

The special preseason event will include a fun-filled outdoor Fan Fest featuring many interactive games and activities for the whole family. The Cavalier Girls will meet and greet fans, the Scream Team will perform and mascot Moondog will be unleashed and up to his fun-filled antics. Fan Fest will be held outside Rhodes Arena starting at 5:00 p.m. It is free to the public and a ticket is not required.
