Game Quotes: Cavaliers at Suns

(On Tonight’s Game): “I am extremely happy with the effort. I thought our guys played their butts off and played extremely hard. I’m really proud of our young guys, Manny, Christian and Samardo, I thought they really did an excellent job. It was that fourth quarter, the last few minutes we just seemed to, I wouldn’t say fall apart but we seem to do something we just can’t do. I addressed that with Christian, you know three fouls that sent them to the free throw line and gave them some easy points instead of making them earn them. That’s lack of experience from young guys but other than that I’m very proud and very happy with how hard we played.”

(On Tonight’s Game): “Like I told you before the game I’m going to make the best out of my opportunity. As long as I’m on the floor and as long as I’m playing basketball I’m blessed to be in the position I’m in now. As long as I’m on the floor I’m trying to win and help my team as much as I can. I just really went after it. I want to get 10 or more rebounds a night. I exceeded that.”

(On Tonight’s Game): “It’s been the same story the whole season. We do enough to compete at a high level. When we’re down we never get discouraged. We continue to play positive basketball but we have those lulls. We take bad shots or costly turnovers or miscommunication defensively and once again tonight, down the stretch when we really needed it we were unable to be consistent for the whole 48 minutes. They’re still learning but to me that was the biggest difference as far as communicating offensively and defensively especially in the fourth quarter when we really needed to get good shots and we couldn’t get them at all.”

(Opening statement): “Well I’ve been in the league a long time and there are no bad wins. I haven’t had a bad win in 23 years. For us, we just needed a win in any kind of way. Tough win—hard fought—you know we got to, once again, do a better job on the offensive boards. But I thought that (in) the second half we did—we gave up two offensive rebounds in the second half. We played well enough to win the game and that is what we have to try to do.”

(On Hakim Warrick’s return to the rotation): “I went back and looked at all the games where we’ve been successful and played pretty good, and he’s (Hakim Warrick) had pretty good numbers, so we’ve got to get him back in the rotation. As I said, (we need to) play some consistent minutes with people—not have it go up and down and fluctuate. I just think we got to play the guys. We’re going to start this team—they’ll start again—it doesn’t matter who we play or how they match up, they’ll start again. ”

(On what the team can take from the game): “You take away momentum, except for that little streak. You take away that we keep grinding out and believing we can get wins. And, it’s a long season, a lot of peaks and valleys, so hopefully we can keep it going.”

(On playing more minutes): “For me, I just tried to step up with Grant (Hill) getting out early, so it gives me more minutes, but for the most part, I thought Steve (Nash) did a good job, Vince (Carter) did a good job scoring and we just needed to get a win. I don’t care who it is against: the Lakers, Clippers, we’ll take this win.”

(On finding a way to win): “We just needed to find a way to win a game. It was hard for us. I don’t know if we played our best, we played hard and we found a way to scrap and win and sometimes that’s what you got to do. I think our team at times our team was not confident, we dropped our heads and tonight we just fought through it.”

(On learning from the win): “I think it was one of those games where we just had to find a way to win. Now we can move on and try to learn something from it. You know, we’re struggling, we’re not only struggling, we’re not playing up to our capabilities; we just have to develop some rhythm and some confidence, and sometimes you just have to fight through and win these games.”
