Game Quotes: Cavaliers at Pacers
HEAD COACH BYRON SCOTT
INDIANA HEAD COACH FRANK VOGEL
"Obviously disappointed. We had an opportunity to win the game before the overtime period. But I just loved the way our guys competed, against a team we feel is one of the better teams in the East. Our effort was fantastic and something we should be proud of. (On Kyrie Irving at the end of regulation) I love the fact he wants the ball and that’s a great sign. I wanted him to have the ball in his hands so he could create for his teammates or have a shot for himself. He did the right thing. He got all the way to the basket. (On turnovers) We have to stop turning the ball over so much, 18 turnovers are too many. Other than that I thought we played a pretty solid game. I do know we’re a better team right now than we were last year. We still feel we have a lot of room to grow. We feel we’re headed in the right direction."
(On missed shot at end of regulation) "Coach Scott called a great play. It was a screen and roll. I got a great look at it. I just wish it would have went down, but it didn’t. My teammates fought hard. We left it all on the floor out there. Now we have to go back to Cleveland and watch film on this game and try to get better from it. I’m proud of my teammates for their effort. We’ve got a big game tomorrow against New Jersey that we have to get ready for."
(On the team’s effort) "A lot of people have pegged the Pacers as a playoff team. So anytime you come out and compete like that you have to feel good about yourselves. (On Kyrie Irving) This is the great part a bout watching him right now. Being able to see him learn and grow and see him become the player that he is going to be. Which is a great one."
INDIANA HEAD COACH FRANK VOGEL
"A very good win for our guys. We needed to make them uncomfortable on their offensive end. We weren’t doing that the first half and that changed in the second half. They turned it up a notch with playoff type defense in the third quarter. (On Kyrie Irving’s last shot in regulation) Irving is a heck of a player right now. Not going to be, but right now. He got by our pick and roll defense and got penetration to the basket. Fortunately he missed. We feel good about our ability to score late in games but we obviously need to work on execution. I thought Roy Hibbert and David West late in the game and George Hill throughout the game were our best players."
"Tonight I was not focusing on the outside jump shot. If it came to me I was going to take it. I must keep defending and working hard on both ends of the court and continue to get better with my teammates. I think we felt we could win in the overtime. Coach puts us in situations such as that so we know how to focus and what we should be doing. I am still trying to fit in and am working hard."
"Our defense, it has carried us because we are not shooting the ball well. I am still getting my game together and finding out about my teammates. I want to fit in and help this team as much as I can. When we quit struggling shooting we will get better. We must work hard every night on both ends of the floor."
"These are the types of games that we have to win. We probably would have lost this one last year. But I think the coaching staff and everybody is teaching us how to win and to win when we get into certain situations. (On his rebounding tonight) When I rebound the way I did tonight, it opens up the lane and gives the other big guys a better chance. This is a good start but it’s only the beginning. We’ve go to continue to grow, defend well and come together with our offense."
